The fitting out of a new space in the Belmeloro area and the rearrangement of the Rector's Offices will enable the University museums to reorganise and expand, in accordance with a new display plan. Restoration of their historical home in via Selmi will strengthen the vocation of the museums, supporting innovative promotional efforts addressing citizens, schools and tourists. The merger of the Historical Archive and the Bologna University Library (BUB) will allow unification of the complex at via Zamboni 33-35, which will become a major cultural heritage platform in terms of the materials conserved, the services provided and the professionalism represented.
Major structural work will restore the Specola Tower to its original splendour, not least due to the system of external lighting that will present the tower as a city monument, and not merely as a museum.
Alongside these initiatives, the Museum System will also have to organise its materials, staff and services in line with the Code for Cultural Assets and the Faro Convention.
