The Filippo Re urban area comprises functions and equipment for the teaching and research requirements of four Departments (Physics and Astronomy, Education Studies “Giovanni Maria Bertin”, Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Psychology). The upgrade and logistical reorganisation plan will enhance the structures dedicated to teaching and services, including a new childhood centre. The project envisages complete renovation of the park and internal roadways, with the adoption of recognisable urban furnishings suited to a University community, with demolition of all the incongruous greenhouses and the building at no. 10, to make room for the new structure that will house a student hall with about 100 places, classrooms, study rooms and dedicated laboratories. The project will also deliver a central library.

The buildings overlooking Via Irnerio, which will be vacated once the activities currently hosted there will move to new premises, will be used to provide adequate accommodation for the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC).

Lastly, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-CNAF) are considering sharing the spaces that will become available once the Department of Astronomy moves to Navile, with the view of promoting a strong synergy with the Department of Physics and Astronomy and creating a major Geophysics Hub.
